Amrosia, what would I do without Ye

Today we ate the pudding from Marks and Spencer's.

Taste Creamy and sweet 4
Texture Creamy, small fluffy rice 4
Look Tin was good, good colour 4
Calories 396 per tin 3
Price 94p (Tesco) 2

An amazing 4 out of 5. I don't know if there will be a store bought 5/5 rice pudding. As far as Rice pudding goes, this was great, but I don't think we could get over the price, especially because it isn't worth it for the extra 80p

Luke: I thought this was the best so far. Expensive but worth it. I wouldn't get this over 12p unless it was on a deal, this was 3 tins for £2. Otherwise I would have tried Muller rice because I was in Tesco.

Melanie:I thought that this was the best texture and taste so far. It was creamy and tasty as well as the rice being fluffy and nice. I would pay the 94p for it but only if the own brand cheap stuff wasn't available.

Marks and Sparks and Rice and Pudding

Today we ate the pudding from Marks and Spencer's.

Taste Bland, lacked sweetness 2
Texture Thick and creamy, small rice 3
Look Looks like proper rice pudding 4
Calories 452 per tin 2
Price 80p 2

Surprisingly 3 points overall. M&S usually has some great things, and is quite often worth spending the extra cash. But not in this case, if you can get down to Tesco or ASDA instead of M&S then do so, you will enjoy it more or equally as much. Maybe they should get 12p rice pudding and stick in cream, or just shovel in some extra sugar.

Luke: 7 times more expensive than the cheaper ones. It wasn't as tasty, maybe it need more sugar. The amount of cream was good for me, though out of the ones eaten so far this isn't the best. I don't think I would get it again unless I had craving (which I will have to miss out on) and can't get to a 12p rice pudding shop.

Melanie: It was thick and creamy but maybe a bit too thick for my liking. It might be a bit thinner when warmed though. I felt that there wasn't much flavour at all. Very bland despite the creamy texture. For the price I was a bit disappointed. Plus this one has the most calories per tin so far. Definitely not worth it.

Tesco Extra Good

Today we tried Tesco Everyday Value rice pudding.

Taste Was nothing special, like ASDA 3
Texture Was a bit watery, otherwise fine 2
Look Rice pudding pale, tin is alright 3
Calories 350 per tin 2
Price 12p 5

Watery, it was the same as the ASDA rice pudding except ASDA's had as good a texture. However the tin looked a lot better, colourful and comes with a pretty picture. Again 3/5 because of the amazing price and almost as good as ASDA but looked better.

Luke:
Tasted pretty good. Don't know why it was so watery and had more calories. Not very many more though, not that I count them. This is where it started, walking home from work and getting Tesco rice pudding for an amazing 12p!

Melanie:
I quite liked this one. It was slightly more watery than the ASDA one but not really that noticeable. Again a bog standard rice pudding. I thought the packaging looked better than the ASDA one. I bit more colourful and friendlier. The calories are more but only about 20 more per tin. So far both rice puddings are basically the same bar a few small differences.

ASDA Smart Price Smart Taste

Today we ate ASDA smart price rice pudding.

Taste Was nothing special 3
Texture Just fine, nothing to mention 3
Look Rice pudding pale, tin is depressing to look at 2
Calories 338 per tin 3
Price 12p 5

We went in thinking it was going to be a 2, but it is a 3. Nothing special, but not bad either. It was 12p! Was totally worth it for 12p. Tesco and Sainbury's are both 12p so this is why it gets 5 for price. We don't know if this is good for calories seems all right.

Luke:
Would I get it again... Yes 3/5 is pretty good, but just a bit boring. If I am in ASDA I will pick up a tin. I wouldn't splash out and buy something which is a little bit more expensive. This was satisfying.

Mel:
It was an overall bog standard rice pudding. Creamy, ricey, puddingy but without any real flavour. Definitely worth 12p. I enjoyed it.

The Preston Rice Pudding Adventures

Rice Pudding

Rice pudding is a vital source a calcium in the British Isles. With its rich creamy and soft cooked rice, with a healthy load of strawberry jam it is also a vital part of living. Me (Luke Preston) and my wife (Melanie Preston) are taking the tremendous task of reviewing, rating and of course eating as many different brands of rice pudding we can find.

So far we have decided to go taste from ASDA, Tesco, M&S Morrison's, Aldi, Lidl and Ambrosia.

We will only be looking at the cheapest 400g tins of rice pudding. We will not cook them but eat them straight from the tin, the way they came (with a spoonful of jam). They will be rated on the following: taste, texture, look (tin and pudding), calorie count and price.

So without much more introduction the next blog will be on ASDA and its 12p 400g smart price tin of ricey creamy goodness, that is rice pudding!
